Staff training and impact assessment and stakeholder consultation
We provide training in social impact assessment, community consultation,
and the assessment of effects. We have done this work both in New Zealand
and in the Pacific. We have also been responsible for training staff employed
in our overseas projects to undertake the
tasks expected of them.
Examples
Local Government Act: Implications for Central Government
Advice to the Ministry of Social Development on the implications for
government agencies of the new Local Government Act 2002. This included
representing the Ministry on working parties established by Local Government
New Zealand to prepare guidelines for all local authorities on understanding
and implementing the Act.
Also:

Training courses in consultation for specific government departments and
for central and local government employees through the Victoria University
short course programme. In 2006 this course is included with credits in the Masters of Public Policy course (MPP).
- Training sessions for several local authorities and professional bodies
on methods for feasibility studies, community participation and consultation.
- Training courses throughout the country for local authority planners,
private companies and professional groups on the assessment of effects
under the Resource Management Act (sponsored by the Ministry for the Environment).
- Annual lectures on Social Impact Assessment and Community Consultation
to students of the Sociology, Social Work, and Geography Departments at
Victoria University, Wellington (between 1990 and 1994).
