PLaCE Consultants' Mission

To assist communities to achieve sustainable resource management by respecting and providing for environmental and community needs.

PLaCE Consultants' Rationale

Resource management is largely about managing the tensions between people, communities, and their use of natural and physical resources. Resource managers around the world now recognise the need to manage the environment in an holistic, integrated way. This involves accepting that people are part of, and dependent on the environment, and that the interactions between people and nature need not be destructive, but can in fact be mutually nurturing and sustainable.

Dealing with the concerns of local communities is an essential part of successful resource and conservation management. For resource management decisions to be sustainable, people must be able to satisfy their own needs without compromising nature or the needs of future generations. We can achieve commitment to sound decisions if communities are well informed and effectively involved in the process of resource management. This can reduce the need for regulation.
