International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) and Code
of Ethics
Corydon Consultants Ltd belongs to the IAIA. IAIA is a forum for advancing innovative, development and communication of best practice in impact assessment. Their international membership promotes development of local and global capacity for the application of environmental, social, health and other forms of assessment in which sound science and full public participation provide a foundation for equitable and sustainable development. The Association's
activities include:
- publication of a quarterly newsletter
- operation of a website and an email list, to link members of the IA
community
- running annual conferences for practitioners and other interested
people on aspects of IA theory and practice in New Zealand
- organising training and professional development
- promoting regional groupings of IA practitioners and encouraging their
activities
- advocacy on behalf of the IA community
- making submissions on IA matters in public involvement processes
Code of Ethics
All IAIA members must abide by the Association's code of ethics. The
Ethical Guidelines (not listed in order of importance) require that members:
- Shall carry out his or her professional activities, as far as possible, in accordance with emerging principles of sustainable development and the highest standards of environmental protection.
- Shall at all times place the integrity of the natural environment and the health, safety and welfare of the human community above any commitment to sectoral or private interests.
- Shall ensure the incorporation of environmental protection and social or socioeconomic impact considerations from the earliest stages of project design or policy development.
- Shall not conduct professional activities in a manner involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, misrepresentation or bias.
- Shall not advertise or present the member's services in a manner that may bring discredit to the profession.

Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ) and Code of Ethics
Corydon Consultants Ltd belongs to the EIANZ. EIANZ is the association of environmental practitioners established to:
- Facilitate interaction among environmental professionals
- Promote environmental knowledge and awareness, and
- Advance ethical and competent environmental practice
In order to better achieve the Primary Purpose of the Institute, but without limiting their generality, the Institute has adopted Secondary Purposes as follows:
- to provide a forum for and to otherwise assist the discussion, consideration and advancement of professional environmental practice;
- to convene and hold seminars, lecturers and conference in relation to professional environmental practice; to produce, publish and distribute reports, journals, books, papers and other informative material in relation to professional environmental practice;
- to encourage and develop awareness, discussion and consideration of professional environmental practice amongst the associated professions and the community at large in Australia and abroad;
- to liaise, consult, work in conjunction and make arrangements and contracts with any individuals, trust, corporations, foundations, firms, partnerships, associations, societies, institutions, organisations and authorities and with the government of the Commonwealth of Australia or of any locality, municipal, State or Territory thereof and any foreign government, organisation or agency or any international body for carrying out the purposes of the Institute;
- to raise, borrow and secure payment of money by any lawful means and to solicit, receive, enlist and accept financial and other support from individuals, trusts, corporations, foundations, firms, partnerships, associations, societies, institutions, organisations and authorities and from the government of the Commonwealth of Australia or any locality, municipality, State or Territory thereof or from any foreign government, organisation or agency or any internal body for carrying out the purposes of the Institute;
- to grant, give and make available money and facilities to any individual, trust, corporation, firm, partnership, association, society, institution, organisation or authorities or with the government of the Commonwealth of Australia of any locality, municipality, State or Territory thereof for carrying out the purposes of the Institute; to encourage and organise social and recreational activities amongst Members of the Institute and other persons interested in the purposes of the Institute.
Code of Ethics
Under the Rules of Association of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand, membership is contingent upon the member conforming with the letter and spirit of the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, which from time to time is adopted by the Council of the Institute and ratified by members of the Institute in a General Meeting.
The following Code of Ehtics and Professional Conduct was adopted by the Council of the Institute in April 1989 and ratified by members of the Institute in a General Meeting on the 10th day of October 1989.
Until revoked or amended in accordance with the Rules of Association this Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct is that governing the professional activities of members of the Institute:
- The member shall carry out his or her professional activities, as far as possible, in accordance with emerging principles of sustainable development and the highest standards of environmental protection.
- The member shall at all times place the integrity of the natural environment and the health, safety and welfare of the human community above any commitment to sectional or private interests.
- The member shall be personally accountable for the validity of all data collected, analyses performed, or plans developed by the member, and for the scrutiny of all data collected, analyses performed or plans developed under the member's direction.
- The member shall actively discourage misrepresentation or misuse of work the member has performed or that which was performed under the member's direction.

- The member shall conduct professional activities, as far appropriate, in an interdisciplinary manner and recognise the need to collaborate with suitably qualified persons in subject areas where the member is less experienced.
- The member shall not conduct professional activities in a manner involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, misrepresentation or bias.
- The member shall not advertise or present the member's services in a manner that may bring discredit to the profession.
