Facilitation, Action Research, Participatory Planning
We specialise in action research and working with communities, agencies
and interest groups to identify problems and solutions, and to put those
solutions into practice through strategy planning workshops. We are experts
at facilitating meetings and have done so for a wide range of groups and
on a wide range of topics.
Examples
Pokeno Structure Plan
Facilitating community input to the development of a strategic planning
document designed to direct the future development of Pokeno (northern
Waikato). This work was carried out for the Franklin District Council.
Wellington Waterfront Development
Chairmanship of the Community Consultative Committee on the Lambton Harbour
Waterfront Development for a period of one year. The committee comprised
representatives from 18 stakeholder groups with widely varying values
and views. It was charged with assisting the design group to prepare plans
and texts suitable for public information, and received and analysed responses
from the public. It reported its recommendations on the future development
of the waterfront to the Wellington City Council.
Climate Change Policy
Facilitation of a national series of seminars on the discussion document
Climate Change and CO2 Policy - A Durable Response, for the Ministry
for the Environment.
NZ Four Wheel Drive Association
Facilitation of the Associations annual conference, which included
a participatory process to develop a strategic plan for the Association.
Ewen Floodway
Facilitation of a community "focus group" over a three year
period for the planning and construction of the Ewen Floodway in Hutt
City. The group comprised representatives of all affected groups and worked
alongside staff and consultants to identify impacts, provide input to
the design and assist with the monitoring of the construction impacts.
Wellington South Coast
Facilitated a multi-stakeholder process to develop a comprehensive plan
of action for the restoration of the South Coast of Wellington, an area
of coastline with high environmental and recreational values.
Facilitation of Major Projects Based on Community Consultation
These included the Moa Point waste water treatment plant and Owhiro Landfill
sludge disposal for the Wellington City Council, and the Te Marua Water
Treatment Plant improvements for the Wellington Regional Council.
Reviews through Action Research
Reviews of the committee services section of the Wellington City Council,
student allowance procedures at Victoria University and staff interaction
at the NZ Council for Educational Research. The reviews used action-research
methods to involve the affected staff in the identification of problems
and solutions, and to develop practices to increase performance standards.
