The Social Impacts of Policy and Budget decisions

2002: Key note address to a regional meeting of representatives of the Pacific Island Forum member countries and international NGOs on the topic "The importance of integrating social and environmental concerns into economic policy and planning."  Designed and facilitated workshop for meeting participants on how to analyse the social impacts of policy and budget decisions.

 

Conservation Project Review, Samoa

2000: Part of a team that reviewed a Division of Environment and Conservation (DEC) Support Project in Samoa.  The team assessed whether the objectives of the Project had been achieved and recommended possible future directions for the DEC.  This project was undertaken for the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

 

Volunteer Involvement in Regional Parks

2001: Study on the involvement of volunteers in Wellington's Regional Parks - what they do, what motivates them, the value of their contributions.  The report includes case studies of five Regional Council volunteer projects and compares the Council's volunteers programme with those of other agencies in New Zealand and overseas.  This report was followed up with a series of strategy development sessions with park managers and rangers to discuss the implications of the findings and work out how to implement the recommendations for improving the Regional Council's programme within the exisiting budget.  .

 

Karori Wildlife Sanctuary, Wellington

1996: Facilitation of a series of public meetings to discuss the draft management plan for the proposed Karori Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellington, and to identify ways of resolving conflicts between various interest groups.  This work was done on behalf of the Wellington City Council and the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary Trust.

 

Climate Change Policy

1996: Facilitated a national series of seminars on the discussion document Climate Change and CO2 Policy - A Durable Response, for the Ministry for the Environment.  This involved designing a meeting process and facilitating meetings throughout the country to gain responses from a wide range of stakeholder groups - from industry representatives to environmental organisations.
