Environmental MediationResource issues involving multiple interests often lead to situations of conflict. We are trained and experienced in Alternative Dispute Resolution methods, including mediation. We are skilled at working with people, and thanks to our background in the social and environmental sciences we understand the issues. ExamplesKarori Wildlife SanctuaryFacilitated a series of public meetings to discuss the draft management plan for the proposed Karori Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellington, and to identify ways of resolving conflicts between various interest groups. This work was done on behalf of the Wellington City Council and the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary Trust. Akatarawa Forest Motorised Recreational AccessFacilitated a multi-stakeholder process involving the Wellington Regional Council and local motorised recreational user groups over the management and recreational use of the Akatarawa Forest. Initially this involved resolution of a dispute over access to the Forest. Following the successful mediation of the dispute, Corydon Consultants Ltd worked with the two parties to develop a set of management guidelines for use by the Council and motorised recreational user groups. Owhiro Bay Sewage Treatment FacilityMediated an agreement between Wellington City Council staff and local residents on the design of the Owhiro Bay pump station. Moa Point Wastewater Treatment PlantFacilitated a process to bring together opposing parties over the location and design of a large scale high-tech wastewater treatment plant for Wellington. Following this process, facilitated an on-going process where local residents and environmental groups worked with the City Council and the contractors to agree on designs and construction processes (see also Facilitation, Action Research, Participatory Planning ). |
